Teddy Bears Are Making A Come Back

You thought the 80s were bad, you hated the pants, plastic bracelets and big hair but you did love those teddy bears. It was sad when they all seemed to disappear from the stores and no one could find them anymore. Well, guess what? The old teddy bears are back and they are looking better than they did before. You've got Care Bears, Gummie Bears, Care Bear Cousins, Paddington Bear, and even Teddy Ruxpin.

For those that may not remember, Gummie bears were the teddy bears that were always trying to do some good. They had seven main characters: Grammi, Cubbi, Sunni, Zummi, Tummi and of course Gruffi. The cartoon was created by Disney and first aired in 1985, but would end in 1990. It was a very popular cartoon in the 80s and had a little less than 100 episodes overall, now the Gummies are slowly showing up in stores.

Care Bears were a favorite of mine, these little teddy bears were always getting into some sort of trouble. Each of the teddy bears came with their own special symbol on their tummy and had some type of special ability. They would always have to come together and do the "CareBear Stare" in order to get everything back to normal and save Care-a-Lot. The Care Bear Cousins soon came out after the Care Bears were released, at first the Cousins didn't have any symbols. The bears actually appeared on greeting cards before they aired on the television in 1985 the show lasted only 3 years. In 1996 Bedtime, Tenderheart and Cheer bear hit the shelves again but it wouldn't be until 2000s that the family of Care Bears would come back to life.

Even Teddy Ruxpin came back. In fact he's been brought back to life four separate times. Released in 1985, again by Playskool, Yes! Entertainment bought the rights in 1998 he was out again. It wasn't until 2005, when Backpack Toys re-introduced him to the world with all the latest technology. This would be the time he would finally come out to stay and he hasn't died since.

There's a trend going on lately and old teddy bears are coming back from their graves. I just hope the styles don't come back. Do you have any favorite old teddy bears?

The Basics Of Buying Safe Toys

Safety should always be first, even when you're purchasing a toy. You want to make sure your child learns, and has fun without worrying about them getting hurt with the toys they love.

First, check the toy recall list. With all the recalls lately, you want to make sure the toy your child wants doesn't appear on that list. Playskool has been advertising that they have not had any of their toys on recent recall lists so you may want to keep that brand in mind.

Make sure the toys are age appropriate. You want to check for any small parts in toys made for ages 3 and under. Stuffed animals are not a good idea for young babies, as the eyes or nose can come off or if it is placed in their crib. You'd be increasing the risk for SIDS.

With all the lead recalls lately, a lot of parents are leery of painted toys. You can buy toys from "Melissa & Doug", a popular US brand. Their toys are lead free. If you have already purchased painted toys, then get a lead kit and test the toys just to double check that they're safe for your child.

Be cautious of soft vinyl toys, as they have been known to have high toxin levels, including lead.

Pull toys with strings attached are very cute for babies, yet they do pose a dangerous strangulation hazard. Make sure the string is no more than twelve inches long and also don't let the child play with it when you're not around.

Be sure to double check where the toy was made. The majority of toys made outside of the United States have tested for high levels of lead and other dangerous toxins.

Toys are not babysitters, so make sure you are always around while your child plays with their toys. Most accidents occur when parents are not looking, therefore make sure your baby does not pick up big brother's toy or that the older sister does not use their little sister's rocking horse as a snowboard.

It is such a shame that in this day and age that we have to be so attentive about the safety of a toy, however we have no choice. The key to purchasing safe toys is by being informed of recalls and other information. An informed parent is more likely to be more careful in choosing that perfect toy for their child.

For one thing, this toy solves a few different purposes. It's an interactive friend that is fun to play with. He talks, makes noises, and makes 40 different sounds altogether. This function alone will keep your child entertained for hours.

For another thing, he acts just like a regular old dump truck, whether he has batteries or not. NUEVA YORK (Reuters) - El fabricante estadounidense de juguetes Hasbro reportó el lunes un alza de sus ganancias trimestrales, gracias a la demanda por juguetes relacionados con películas.

Hasbro, el segundo mayor fabricante de juguetes del mundo, dijo que su ganancia en el tercer trimestre subió a 150,4 millones de dólares, o 99 centavos de dólar por acción, desde 138,2 millones de dólares, o 89 centavos por título, del mismo período del año anterior.

Las ventas netas de la empresa, conocida por sus marcas Transformers y Playskool, bajaron a 1.280 millones de dólares desde 1.300 millones de dólares del tercer trimestre del año anterior.

Los analistas esperaban ganancias de 0,93 dólares por título sobre ventas de 1.323 millones de dólares, según Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Hasbro dijo que cree que puede anotar un alza de sus ventas en el año si sigue la tendencia de mejora del consumo en el cuarto trimestre.
